corrugated wire mesh demister

Wire mesh demisters are important components in chemical gas-liquid separation equipment, consisting of a gas-liquid filter screen and supporting components. The gas-liquid filter screen is typically woven from microfilaments using a knitting-like (warp knitting) method. Common metallic materials include SS304, SS316L, titanium alloys, nickel-based alloys, and Hastelloy, while non-metallic materials include PE (polyethylene), PP (polypropylene), PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene), and GF (glass fiber).

The primary function of a wire mesh demister is to intercept and collect liquid droplets (mist) within gas streams. When gas carrying droplets larger than 3 to 5 micrometers rises at a certain velocity through the mesh, the inertia of these liquid droplets causes them to collide with the fine wires and adhere to their surfaces. The adhered liquid droplets further coalesce and settle due to gravity, gradually flowing along the wires to the intersections of the mesh.

Owing to the wettability of the wires, the surface tension of the liquid, and the capillary action of the wires, the droplets grow larger and larger. When their own weight exceeds the combined force of the buoyancy from the rising gas and the surface tension of the liquid, the droplets separate from the wires and fall, flowing into the downstream equipment of the separation device.

Corrugated wire mesh demisters, also known as wave-shaped demisters, are special demisters with a V or W-shaped cross-section. In addition to the characteristics of ordinary flat-plate and drawer-type demisters, they also have the following features:

1. Achieves separate airflow and liquid flow, avoiding secondary entrainment and significantly improving demister performance.

2. Due to its V or W-shaped cross-section, the effective demister area is increased by more than 15%, reducing airflow resistance.

3. The increased demister area and enhanced demister performance allow a single corrugated demister or even two layers of flat wire mesh demisters to achieve the same effect, significantly saving installation space and reducing equipment costs.
