Duplex Stainless Steel Mesh
Duplex stainless steel mesh is a high-performance wire mesh made from austenitic-ferritic (duplex) stainless steel that is twice as strong as standard austenitic stainless steels (such as 304/316) and offers superior corrosion resistance. The most common stainless steel grades are 2205 (UNS S32205/S31803) and 2507 (UNS S32750, “Super Duplex”).
Duplex vs 316L vs Super Duplex Stainless Steel – Comparison Table
Property | Duplex 2205 | 316L Stainless Steel | Super Duplex 2507 |
---|---|---|---|
Yield Strength | 450–550 MPa | 170–300 MPa | 550–600 MPa |
PREN (Pitting Resistance Equivalent Number) | ≥35 | ~26 | ≥40 |
Chloride Resistance | Excellent | Good | Superior |
Relative Cost | Moderate | Low | High |
Note: The above parameters can be optimized and customized according to working conditions.
Common Grades of Duplex Stainless Steel Mesh
1.Duplex 2205 (UNS S32205 / S31803)
– 22% Cr, 5% Ni, 3% Mo, 0.17% N
– Best for: Offshore oil & gas, chemical processing, desalination.
2.Super Duplex 2507 (UNS S32750)
– 25% Cr, 7% Ni, 4% Mo, 0.28% N
– Best for: Extreme chloride environments (seawater, acidic chemicals).
3.Lean Duplex (e.g., 2101, 2304)
– Lower nickel/molybdenum → Cost-saving alternative where extreme corrosion resistance isn’t needed.
Weave Types & Specifications:
Duplex mesh comes in multiple weave patterns for different applications:
1.Plain Weave (Most Common)
– Balanced grid for filtration, sieving, and structural reinforcement.
– Mesh Sizes: 0.2 to 200 mesh (openings from ~10mm to 0.075mm).
2.Twilled Weave
– Stronger, tighter weave for high-pressure filtration (e.g., oil & gas).
3.Dutch Weave (Fine Micron Filtration)
– Ultra-fine mesh for filtering small particles in aggressive media.
Product Features and Benefits
- Higher strength (yield strength is twice that of 316L) → Longer service life in harsh environments.
- Excellent corrosion resistance → Resistant to pitting, crevice corrosion, and chloride stress corrosion cracking (SCC).
- Good weldability and formability → Suitable for complex industrial designs.
- Cost-effective compared to nickel alloys → Less expensive than Hastelloy, yet performs well in harsh conditions.
